Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter and musician.
Shawn Colvin stopped the industry in its tracks with her arresting 1989 debut, Steady On. The following spring, Colvin took home the GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, establishing herself as a mainstay in the singer-songwriter genre. In the ensuing 30 years, Colvin has won three GRAMMY Awards, released 13 superlative albums, written a critically acclaimed memoir, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule, appeared on countless television and radio programs, had her songs featured in major motion pictures and created a remarkable canon of work. Over the course of three decades, Shawn Colvin has established herself as a captivating performer and a revered storyteller.
Colvin was recognized for her career accomplishments when she was honored with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award by the Americana Music Association. Presenting the award was Bonnie Raitt. Said Raitt, “She’s simply one of the best singers I’ve ever heard—and a truly gifted and deep songwriter and guitarist.”
Colvin was recently inducted into the 2019 Austin City Limits Hall of Fame alongside legendary artists Lyle Lovett and Buddy Guy. In a moving induction speech, Jackson Browne extolled, “Not many writers are able to do what Shawn does. It’s a very special way of relating what really matters. It takes an original to get our attention. Shawn is utterly original in her singing, and original in what she speaks about in her songs.”
“…extraordinary songs, mesmerising guitar playing, and a voice that goes effortlessly from bruise-tender to scar-hard in a matter of minutes… her lyrics are crafted and clever, full of subtlety and polished phrases… With delicious sarcasm and acerbic stories, she held the audience spellbound… her songs are so personal to her that they speak to everyone who listens.” —The Guardian

“Shemekia Copeland has established herself as one of the leading blues artists of our time.” –NPR Music
Award-winning blues, soul and Americana singer Shemekia Copeland possesses one of the most instantly recognizable and deeply soulful roots music voices of our time. She is beloved worldwide for the fearlessness, honesty and humor of her revelatory music, as well as for delivering each song she performs with unmatched passion. Copeland — winner of the 2021 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year— connects with her audience on an intensely personal level, taking them with her on what The Wall Street Journal calls “a consequential ride” of “bold and timely blues.” NPR Music says Shemekia sings with “punchy defiance and potent conviction.” The Houston Chronicle describes her songs as “resilient pleas for a kinder tomorrow.”

Have you ever noticed that the world looks and feels a little different after a North Country Chamber Players’ performance, that there is a “collective effervescence” in the air?
When we experience live music, it gets under our skin, reverberates bone-deep, and floods us with endorphins, dopamine and oxytocin. People who regularly experience live music enjoy boosted creativity, stress reduction and a greater sense of connection to others.
On July 11, you can experience “collective effervescence” and at the same time support the music education and outreach programs of the North Country Chamber Players. This Bach program takes us on an emotional journey from patience to reckless abandon, all while sitting in the breathtaking Crystal Ballroom in Whitefield’s Mountain View Grand Resort.
The program starts with Cantata 209, described as one of Bach’s “heavenly arias”, in B Minor, the key that is described as “the essence of patience, the calm acceptance of fate without complaint.” It concludes with the Harpsichord Concerto in D Minor, “music filled with ferocious vigor and an irreverent, reckless abandon comparable to a sports car driver speeding around a sharp curve.”
Are you in?
Tickets for the concert and dinner are $125 per person.
For more information or to donate visit us at northcountrychamberplayers.org.

New Hampshire’s Juston McKinney returns with lots of new material!!
Juston has two Comedy Central Specials including his own one-hour special and multiple appearances on the Tonight Show, and on Conan O’Brien, but there’s no place like home!
When NH magazine named him “Best of NH” they wrote, “The Granite State may have more famous comedians than you can shake a stick at (Seth Meyers, Sarah Silverman and Adam Sandler to name a few) but no one really “gets” New Hampshire humor like Juston McKinney. He’s been using the state as his comic muse since he was humoring perps as a deputy sheriff on the NH/ME border in the 1990s. Now he’s got TV deals galore and appearances on “The Tonight Show” and Comedy Central.”
His Youtube channel has over a million views, which includes NH favorites such as “Live Free or Die” and “Live Freeze then Die!”.
A regular guest at Jean’s Playhouse, Juston’s shows typically sell out, so purchase your seats now! Check out justonmckinney.com for more info on the comic!
Purchase tickets here. General admission. Rated PG-13. $32 per ticket.

“Grace Kelly has an electric charisma onstage that instantly ignites the room” —Jon Batiste
An unequivocal musical prodigy, singer-saxophonist-songwriter-composer and band leader Grace Kelly has rocked the jazz world with sold-out concerts, 14 acclaimed albums and a resume that includes performing at the Hollywood Bowl and as part of the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” —all before reaching her mid-twenties. Kelly’s early career featured performances at Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration at age 16 and at 14 as a soloist with the Boston Pops playing an original composition arranged for the legendary orchestra; she has since then played over 900 shows as bandleader in 35 countries at venues like the Kennedy Center and Moscow Symphony Hall and for the Montreal, Newport, and Montreux international jazz festivals. Touted for her scorching saxophone stylings and purring vocals, Kelly has performed and recorded with renowned artists including Lin Manuel-Miranda, Dave Brubeck, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Huey Lewis, Harry Connick Jr., Gloria Estefan, Questlove, and Wynton Marsalis.
“…broad tone and tenacious flow on the alto saxophone, clearly in possession of virtuoso talents… impressive singing voice, flitting among a range of styles.” —New York Times

Two actors play 15 characters in one rollicking comedy!
When small town Irishmen Charlie and Jake are hired as extras in an epic American movie that invades their scenic County Kerry village, chaos ensues as they begin to discover that their romanticized Hollywood dream isn’t quite what it seems. Pitting harsh reality against Hollywood endings, Marie Jones’ Olivier Award-winning tragicomedy is a hilarious story brought to life by Jorge Donoso & Ethan Paulini.
