Mother’s Day Weekend – Mom’s Just Wanna Have Fun. What started out as an annual videotape comedy competition in New York to honor a fellow woman in comedy who helped so many others get their start (Mary Jo Wobker), the Ladies of Laughter has steadily become known in the comedy world as the career builder for women in comedy. In celebration of Mother’s Day weekend, Ladies of Laughter is pleased to present three great comics: Alyce Chan, Leighann Lord, and Jane Condon.
Alyce Chan is a multifaceted talent known as a speaker, writer, producer, and stand-up comedian with a global presence. Her comedy has graced renowned venues such as The Stand and the New York Comedy Club in New York, as well as Yuk Yuk’s in Canada, among others. Her comedic prowess was further underscored when she emerged as a finalist at the esteemed Boston Comedy Festival in May 2023.
Smart, sexy, savvy, and funny, Leighann Lord’s “heads up humor” is stand-up comedy at its finest. Inspired by the brilliance of George Carlin, the smooth jazz style of Franklyn Ajaye, and the elegance of Rita Rudner, Leighann has crafted her own unique brand of Thinking Cap Comedy. It’s no wonder she received the NYC Black Comedy Award for “The Most Thought Provoking Black Female Comic.”
Jane Condon has two boys, otherwise everything’s fine. Since she’s from a blue-collar town in Massachusetts, she likes to make fun of her current posh address in Greenwich, CT. She loves to tell stories about her adventures (mostly survival tales) with her boys. Condon was named one of 10 Comedy Best Bets in Back Stage’s annual comedy issue (2001). She has appeared on ABC-TV’s “The View” and Lifetime TV’s “Girls’ Night Out” and FOX-TV’s series finale of “24.”

Event Details
Kinobe is a Ugandan musician, educator and creative arts producer whose work has been described as “some of the most exquisite music coming out of Africa today”. Since his youth, he has captivated audiences with world-roots rhythms and melodies that emanate from the diversity of the many traditional instruments he customized to develop his unique sound. The diverse textures of Kinobe’s music make it soothing, pulsing, meditative, invigorating, and intimate —much of it a mix of original and traditional with global influences—but the sounds are uniquely his.
Kinobe’s pan African quartet brings together Cameronian producer and bassist Jonas Yologaza, Nigerian drummer Olaolu Ajibade, and duo national keyboardist William Pefok from Cameroon and Nigeria. Led by Kinobe’s voice African traditional instruments i.e. Kora, Kalimba, Endongo and Tama, this band has created a unique sound of their own tapping into various global influences with a strong foundation in African roots.

The sensational Sierra Hull brings her virtuosic mandolin mastery along with her phenomenal band to The Colonial stage. She is a two-time GRAMMY® Nominated artist and songwriter and six-time recipient of IBMA’s Mandolin Player of the Year, the first woman to ever receive this distinction. Her live performances showcase incredible musicianship and a rare connection with her audience. Whether delivering a lightning-fast instrumental or a soul-stirring ballad, Hull’s artistry is undeniable. Don’t miss this extraordinary evening of bluegrass and beyond—get your tickets now!
About Sierra Hull:
With A Tip Toe High Wire, her first new album in five years, songwriter, singer, and award-winning mandolinist Sierra Hull has perfected the daring act of stepping into a new, progressive sonic territory while never straying too far from the bluegrass and Americana roots she’s cultivated in her two-decade-plus career. While joined on the album by world-class friends like Béla Fleck, Tim O’Brien, and Aoife O’Donovan, Hull self-produced A Tip Toe High Wire with her highly skilled touring band in the center ring—something she was able to make the call on as this is also her first album to be released entirely independently. “In some ways, it feels like stepping out into a different territory,” Hull says. “And leaning into that at this chapter of my career—the freedom of being able to be out on my own, to create with no walls for what feels like the first time—has helped me grow.” For more information visit SierraHull.com.
