TITLE: Youth Development Professionals

DEPARTMENT: Programs

REPORTS TO: Program Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Implements and supervises programs and activities provided in program areas leading to the priority outcomes of good character and citizenship, healthy behavior and lifestyle. Provides overall leadership and mentoring through implementation of youth development instructional strategies. This position also provides management and supervision to assigned program aides and volunteer staff.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Prepare Youth for Success

1. Plans, with the aid of the Program Director, and oversees the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:

  • Establishes program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Oversees the provision of age-appropriate day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Ensures that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and that they receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
  • Demonstrates leadership to ensure proper conduct, safety, and development of members.

Program Development and Implementation

2. Establishes and maintains program goals and settings to ensure the health and safety of members. Ensures that program areas are safe, well ventilated, and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in a good working condition and all used areas are cleaned each day.

3. Ensures the evaluation of Club programs, verifying that programs and activities respond to member needs and addresses their gender and cultural diversity.

Supervision

4. Oversees proper reporting, including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation, notable achievements, and any problems or concerns.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and direct supervisor to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain, or interpret guidelines and instructions.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Preference given to those with a two-year degree in a related field such as teaching or child care, from an accredited college or university but is not required. Must be 16 years of age or higher.
  • Preference given to those with a minimum of two years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or a similar organization with planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and project management abilities.
  • Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications which employer provides.
  • Must pass criminal background and reference checks.
  • Upon hire, must complete paid training to include NH CCLU health and safety learning modules and BGCA required courses.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may require prolonged periods of standing; lifting and/or pushing up to 50 lbs. may be required.

CLASSIFICATION:

  • Part-time or Full-time summer; hourly work.
  • Employee-at-will; serves at discretion of the Executive Director.
